At Segway of Central Florida, we are a Segway PT Full Factory Authorized Level III Service Center. Our crew can provide in-house repair services for all models of the Gen2 Segway PT SE and non-SE equipment (such as the x2 and i2.)

Segway Key Programming and Repairs

We can make new keys ($245.00) for Gen2 Segway PT models using our in-house InfoKey programmer and  your old key or key codes. We also offer key repair service with costs ranging between $75.00 to $125.00. Your existing keys can be copied or reprogrammed at a cost of $45.00 per key. 

First Generation Keys

If you have the old key or key codes for the unit, we can duplicate Gen1 button keys at a cost of $42.00 per key. In case you need the key codes from the factory, we can request the codes for you. The cost is $125.00 to provide this service.

Tire Service

This is one of our company’s specialties. We provide upgraded UrbanMaster brand tires mounted on recycled rims for $169.00 per wheel, plus tax and shipping. Compared to paying $260.00 per wheel for a new factory i2 wheel assembly, our offer is more cost-effective. However, this price requires the rims to be in good condition and traded in at the time of service.

Shipping the Tires

Distance is no problem since we partner with FedEx Ground to provide next-day service anywhere within the state of Florida. For other areas, the shipping time may be slightly longer. We will ship the replacement tires to you, and you return the used wheels to us with our prepaid label. If you don’t have a serviceable rim to send back, there will be a core charge of $125.00 per rim. Prior to service, we will provide a quote for the round-trip shipping costs.

Service FAQs


A: The first step is to look at the display screen on your Segway InfoKey. If you see numbers at the top of the screen, press the power key (lower left button) to start the Segway. In case there are no numbers on the display screen or it is blank, you will need to remove the battery cover on the back of the key. Then try replacing the InfoKey’s CR2430 button cell battery. If the Segway still will not start, plug the power cord into the charge port. If one or both of the charge lights turn red, then you have a problem with the Segway battery and/or charger. If the charge lights both turn green and your Segway still will not start, then give us a call at (352) 383-9900.

A: The Segway PT has two "charge lights" in the center console of the chassis. When the Segway is plugged into a power outlet, these two lights should turn green when the charging process begins. If either of the charge lights turns red, then the corresponding battery (top light=front battery, bottom light=rear battery) or the internal charge has failed.

A: When you plug the charge cord into the Segway's charge port, the two charge lights on the center console should turn green. After the charging process is complete (up to 8 hours), the batteries will go into a trickle charge. On Segway batteries manufactured before 2020, the charge lights will blink green while in trickle charge. On Segway batteries manufactured in 2020 and later, the charge lights will blink green for a few moments when first going into trickle charge and will then go dark entirely and will only turn green as needed to top off the battery.

A: Yes. Compared to the average American car and the highest-mileage scooters, the Segway PT is 11 and 3 times more efficient, respectively. This vehicle can also go indoors as the Segway PT has zero emissions.

A: It depends, but it will most likely fit into an SUV or Crossover vehicle. If you need more flexibility during transport, the LeanSteer frame attaches from the powerbase. These frames can be adjusted to the rider’s comfort and can be collapsed for convenient storage. Segway Ramps are useful for loading and unloading.

A: Yes, Segway sets weight limits for rider safety and to reduce the risk of damage to the Segway PT. A rider must not be less than 100 lbs. (45 kg). The maximum payload (which includes rider and all cargo) for the Segway PT is 260 lbs. (117 kg). The total weight of any handlebar cargo plus any additional attachments hanging from the handlebar should not exceed 10 lbs. (4.5 kg).

A: There are two operational settings with each Segway PT: “Beginner” and “Standard.” The beginner configuration is set to 6mph/13kph, while the standard setting is set to 12.5mph/20kph. For comparison, 12.5mph is roughly equal to a 5-minute mile, which is a really quick run.

A: Depending on your base model, payload, riding style, and terrain, a single charge on the i2 SE model can support up to between 24 and 30 miles of travel (12 to 18 miles for the x2 SE model). You’ll be amazed at just how far that is.

A: A standard wall outlet can charge your Segway PT’s batteries with the included power cord. It takes about 15 minutes to get enough charge to travel one mile. A full charge requires approximately 8-10 hours.

A: Yes. The device is completely sealed to allow it to operate in wet weather occasionally. Great care should be taken on slippery surfaces and afterward, the Segway foot-mats should be removed and the entire platform dried thoroughly.

A: It is, essentially, a key for your unit. Each one is programmed to start and lock a specific Segway PT and provides real-time information like battery life, system performance, and speed. Additionally, there is also an anti-theft system in place to discourage anyone from tampering with your vehicle, should you need to leave it parked. If anyone attempts to move your Segway PT, an alarm will sound. The wheels will lock, the vehicle will start vibrating, and a visual alert will be sent wirelessly to your InfoKey controller.

A: As of May 15, 2007, there are two wireless InfoKey controllers in the box included with each Segway PT. The keys will operate your Segway and no other. InfoKey requires a button cell battery. (CR2430)

A: We recommend you contact your insurance company or local agent to find out the type of coverage available for Segway PTs, but many options are available today. In most states, Progressive Insurance does provide personal use coverage for these vehicles. Call 1-800-PROGRESSIVE or visit www.progressive.com for more details.

A: Keep your Segway PT looking squeaky clean with mild soap and water or a product such as Windex. Products that protect and shine rubber, plastic, and vinyl surfaces are not recommended, as these products may impact tire traction. Be sure to keep water away from the charge port cover. DO NOT spray a hard stream of water on or near the chassis of the Segway.

A: You may travel with your Segway PT using mass transportation at the discretion of company policy. Some may treat the Segway PT as an assistive device or baggage. In general, the lithium-ion batteries on Segway i2s and x2s are considered hazardous material and are not allowed on commercial passenger airlines. Still, you can ship your Segway PT anywhere by ground. Check with your local transit provider for more information.

A: The serial number can be found on the registration card you received by email when the unit was first purchased and on your sales invoice. It can be physically found on the unit by lifting the rear tab of the right-side foot mat and look to the rear edge of the platform to locate your serial number. It will be a 12-digit number beginning with a 0, 1, or 2 printed directly on the base of the unit where the rubber foot mat tab fits between the chassis and plastic trim. The serial number is also stamped into the aluminum chassis and can be found by removing it from the battery. Make sure to write it down and store it in a safe place.

A: Segway batteries are hazardous materials and must be recycled responsibly. You can return your old batteries to your Segway dealer or locate a battery recycler near you at www.rbrc.org/consumer

A: You need to provide a request by email to Segway Customer Care at the factory in Bedford, New Hampshire to begin the process. Please include a copy of the following:

  • Original Invoice or Bill of Sale Identifying the Previous Owner
  • The Unit’s Serial Number
  • Your Contact Information (including name, address, and phone number)

A: You can do some basic programming, such as setting the time, date, and whether you want the display to show miles or kilometers. The speeds for Standard Setting and Beginner Setting, as well as the “off time” for Standby mode, can also be set. Please refer to your User Materials for further details. If you feel additional programming is necessary, please contact your local Segway dealer.

A: Yes. Using a special sequence of button presses, each InfoKey controller can be locked into the beginner setting. You can also set the Beginner Setting speed, Standard Setting speed, and “off” time for Standby mode. To further customize your InfoKey controller, visit your Segway dealer. Each controller can be programmed separately as an additional service. It is offered to customers that can be quoted per account by your local dealer.
